THE GOOD MESSAGE OF
JESUS THE CHRIST
Synthesis
82

Saying these things as they were sitting and eating,
Jesus was troubled in the spirit and said,
"Amen, I tell you that one of you will give me over,
one who is eating with me."

The disciples looked at each other
uncertain about whom he meant.
One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved,
was sitting by the chest of Jesus;
so Simon Peter nodded to this disciple
and said to him, "Ask who it is he means."

That disciple leaning thus on Jesus's chest
said to him, "Lord, who is it?"

Becoming very sad
each one began to say to him, "Is it I, Lord?"

Jesus answered,
"The one who is dipping his hand with me in the dish,
he will give me over.
The human son is going as it has been written about him,
but woe to that person through whom
the human son is given over;
it would have been better for him
if that person had not been born."

Dipping the piece of bread
was Judas Iscariot, son of Simon,
and after the piece of bread
then Satan entered into that one.
Judas, the one giving him over, answered, "Is it I, Rabbi?"

Jesus said to him, "You said it;
what you are doing do quickly."

But none of those dining knew why he told him this;
for some thought, since Judas had the money box,
that Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the feast,"
or that he should give something to the poor.
Taking the piece of bread that one went out immediately;
it was night.

When he went out, Jesus said,
"Now the human son is glorified,
and God is glorified in him;
God will both glorify him in himself,
and will immediately glorify him.
Children, for a little while I am still with you;
you will search for me,
and just as I told the Jews
that where I am going you cannot come,
I say it also to you now.

"I give you a new commandment, that you love each other;
as I have loved you, so also you love each other.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for each other."

As they were eating, taking bread and blessing it
he broke it and gave it to the disciples,
saying, "Take it, eat; this is my body."
Taking a cup and giving thanks he gave it to them,
saying, "Take this and share it among yourselves;"
and they all drank from it.
He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant
which is shed on behalf of many for the release of sins.
Do this in remembrance of me.
Amen, I tell you that
I will not drink any more from the fruit of the vine
until that day when I drink it anew
with you in the sovereignty of God.
