As they were proceeding, he entered a certain village;
and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.
Her sister was called Mary,
who sitting at the Lord's feet listened to his word.

But Martha was busy with much serving;
and standing she said, "Lord, doesn't it matter to you
that my sister left me alone to serve?
So tell her that she should help me."

The Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha,
you are worried and bothered about many things,
but there is need of few things or one;
for Mary selected the good part,
which will not be taken from her."

When he was praying in a certain place,
as he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord,
teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples."

He said to them, "When you pray, say:
'Father, let your name be holy;
let your sovereignty come;
give us our daily bread each day;
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves also forgive everyone owing us;
and do not bring us into temptation.'"

Also he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend,
and he goes to him in the middle of the night
and says to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
since my friend has come to me from a journey
and I have nothing that I may set before him;'
and that one inside answers, 'Don't bother me;
the door has already been locked,
and my children are with me in bed;
I can't get up to give to you.'
I tell you, even if he will not give to him,
getting up because he is his friend,
yet because of his persistence,
rising he will give him whatever he needs."
