They went down into Capernaum, a town of Galilee.
Entering the synagogue on the Sabbath he was teaching them,
and they were amazed at his teaching;
for his word was with authority, not like the scholars.

In their synagogue was a person
with an unclean demon spirit,
and he cried out in a loud voice, "Eah!
Why are you among us, Jesus Nazarene?
Did you come to destroy us?
I know who you are, the holy one of God."

Jesus reprimanded him, "Be quiet and come out of him."
Throwing him down and convulsing him
and crying in a loud voice
the unclean spirit came out of him without harming him.

Everyone was astounded,
so that they debated with each other,
"What is this word?
A new teaching with authority,
that with power he even commands the unclean spirits,
and they obey him."
And his fame went out everywhere
in the whole region of Galilee.

Going out of the synagogue they came into the home
of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
The mother-in-law of Simon was laying down fever-stricken,
and they asked him about her.
As he touched her hand, the fever left her,
and she rose at once and served them.

While the sun was setting and evening was coming,
they brought to him
all those who were ill and demon-possessed
so that the whole town was gathered at the door,
and putting his hands on each one of them he healed them.

Thus was fulfilled
what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:

He took our ailments and bore our diseases.

With a word he expelled demons out of many,
some shouting, "You are the son of God."
Reprimanding them he would not allow them to speak,
for they knew he was the Christ.

Getting up very early in the night he went out
and went away into a deserted place, and there he prayed.
Simon and these with him searched for him,
and finding him they said to him,
"Everyone is looking for you."

He said to them,
"Let us go elsewhere into the neighboring towns,
so that there also I may preach
the good message of the sovereignty of God,
because for this I was sent."

He went around throughout Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues
and preaching the good message of the sovereignty
and healing every disease and every malady among the people.

His fame went into all of Syria;
they brought to him all who were ill with various diseases
and those suffering pain,
the demon-possessed and lunatics and paralytics,
and he healed them.
Large crowds followed him from Galilee and Decapolis
and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond the Jordan.

While he was in one of the towns,
a leper came and kneeled before him appealing to him,
"Lord, if you are willing, you can cleanse me."

In compassion reaching out his hand he touched him
saying, "I am willing; be cleansed."
Immediately the leprosy went away from him,
and he was cleansed.

Warning him sternly Jesus sent him away,
ordering him, "See that you tell no one anything,
but go show yourself to the priest
and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded,
as testimony to them."

But going out he began to proclaim many things
and spread the word,
so that he was no longer able to enter the towns openly,
but he was withdrawing into the deserts and praying;
yet the crowds came to him from everywhere.
