THE GOOD MESSAGE OF
JESUS THE CHRIST
Synthesis
14

On another day again
John was standing with two of his disciples,
and seeing Jesus walking he said, "Look, the lamb of God."
The two disciples heard him speaking and followed Jesus.

Jesus turning and seeing them following
said to them, "What are you looking for?"

They said to him, "Rabbi"
(which translated means "Teacher"),
"where are you staying?"

He said to them, "Come, and you will see."
So they went and saw where he was staying,
and they stayed with him that day;
it was about the tenth hour.

Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter,
was one of the two who had heard John and followed him;
first he found his own brother Simon
and told him, "We have found the Messiah"
(which is translated "Christ").

He led him to Jesus.
Looking at him Jesus said, "You are Simon, the son of John;
you shall be called Cephas" (which is translated "Peter").

The next day he wished to go out to Galilee,
and he found Philip.
Jesus told him, "Follow me."
Philip was from Bethsaida, from the town of Andrew and Peter.

Philip found Nathanael and told him,
"We have found him about whom Moses and the prophets wrote,
Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth."

Nathanael said to him,
"Can anything good be from Nazareth?"

Philip said to him, "Come and see."

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him,
"Look, a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit."

Nathanael said to him, "From where do you know me?"

Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you,
while you were under the fig tree I saw you."

Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the son of God;
you are king of Israel."

Jesus answered him, "Because I told you
that I saw you underneath the fig tree, do you believe?
You shall see greater things than these.
Amen, amen, I tell you, you shall see heaven opened
and the angels of God going up
and coming down upon the human son."

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there;
and both Jesus and his disciples were invited to the wedding.

Running out of wine,
the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."

Jesus said to her, "What is that to me and you, woman?
My hour has not yet come."

His mother said to the servants,
"Do whatever he tells you."
Lying there were six stone water jars
according to the purifications of the Jews,
each holding twenty or thirty gallons.

Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water."
They filled them up to the top.

He told them, "Draw now and carry to the headwaiter."
They carried it.

When the headwaiter tasted it, the water had become wine;
and he did not know where it was from,
but the servants who drew the water knew.

The headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
"Everyone first puts out the fine wine,
and when they are drunk the lesser;
you have kept the fine wine until now."

This beginning of the miracles
Jesus did in Cana of Galilee;
he manifested his glory,
and his disciples believed in him.

After this he went down to Capernaum,
he and his mother and brothers and his disciples,
and there they stayed not many days.
