And he began to speak to them in parables.
"A person planted a vineyard, and put a fence around it
and dug in a wine-press and built a tower,
and he rented it to farmers, and went away on a journey.
"And he sent to the farmers at the season a servant,
so that from the farmers he might receive
from the fruit of the vineyard;
and taking him they beat him
and sent him away empty-handed.
"And again he sent to them another servant;
and that one they hit in the head and insulted.
And he sent another; and that one they killed,
and there were many others, some beaten, others killed.
"Still he had one, a beloved son;
he sent him to them last saying, 'They will respect my son.'
"But those farmers said to themselves, 'This is the heir;
come let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
And taking him they killed him,
and threw him out of the vineyard.
"What will the lord of the vineyard do?
He will come and destroy the farmers,
and he will give the vineyard to others.
"Have you not read this scripture:
A stone which the builders rejected,
this became the corner-stone;
it was from the Lord,
and it is marvelous in our eyes?"
And they tried to arrest him,
yet they were afraid of the crowd;
for they knew that he told the parable against them.
And leaving him they went away.
Mark 12:1-12
"Listen to another parable.
There was a master of an estate who planted a vineyard,
and he put a fence around it
and dug in it a wine-press and built a tower,
and he rented it to farmers, and went away on a journey.
"And when the season of the fruit drew near,
he sent his servants to the farmers to receive his fruit.
And the farmers taking his servants beat one,
killed one, and stoned one.
"Again he sent other servants, more than the first,
and they did the same thing to them.
And later he sent to them his son
saying, 'They will respect my son.'
"But the farmers seeing the son
said among themselves, 'This is the heir;
come let's kill him and have his inheritance;'
and taking him they threw him out of the vineyard
and killed him.
"So when the lord of the vineyard comes,
what will he do to those farmers?"
They say to him, "The bad men he will badly destroy,
and the vineyard he will rent to other farmers,
who will give him back the fruit in their seasons."
Jesus says to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures:
A stone which the builders rejected,
this became the corner-stone;
it was from the Lord,
and it is marvelous in our eyes?
"For this reason I tell you
that the sovereignty of God will be taken from you
and will be given to a nation producing its fruit.
And the one falling on this stone will be shattered;
but whomever it falls upon, it will crush him."
And the high priests and the Pharisees hearing his parables
knew that he was talking about them;
yet trying to arrest him they were afraid of the crowds,
since they held him as a prophet.
Matthew 21:33-46
And he began to tell to the people this parable.
"A person planted a vineyard, and he rented it to farmers,
and he went away on a journey for a considerable time.
"And in season he sent to the farmers a servant,
so that they would give him from the fruit of the vineyard;
but the farmers beating him sent him out empty-handed.
And he sent another servant in addition;
but beating and insulting that one also
they sent him out empty-handed.
And he sent a third in addition;
but wounding this one also they threw him out.
"And the lord of the vineyard said, 'What should I do?
I will send my beloved son;
perhaps this one they will respect.'
"But seeing him the farmers discussed it with each other
saying, 'This is the heir; let's kill him,
so that the inheritance may become ours.'
And throwing him out of the vineyard they killed him.
"So what will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
He will come and destroy these farmers,
and he will give the vineyard to others."
And hearing they said, "May it not happen."
And looking at them he said,
"Then what is this that is written:
A stone which the builders rejected,
this became the corner-stone?
Everyone falling on that stone will be shattered;
but whomever it falls upon, it will crush him."
And the scholars and the high priests
tried to lay their hands upon him in that same hour,
yet they were afraid of the people;
for they knew that against him he told this parable.
Luke 20:9-19
He said, "A good man had a vineyard.
He gave it to farmers so that they might work it
and so that he might receive its fruit from them.
"He sent his servant
so that the farmers might give him the fruit of the vineyard.
They seized his servant, beat him, and almost killed him.
The servant came and told this to the master.
"His master said, 'Perhaps they did not recognize him.'
He sent another servant; the farmers beat him also.
Then the master sent his son.
He said, 'Perhaps they will respect my son.'
"Since those farmers knew
that he was the heir of the vineyard,
they seized him and killed him.
Whoever has ears let him hear."
Thomas 65
Jesus said, "Show me the stone which the builders rejected;
it is the corner-stone."
Thomas 66
And Jesus answering again spoke to them in parables
saying, "The sovereignty of heaven is like a king,
who gave a wedding for his son.
And he sent his servant to call those invited to the banquet,
and they would not come.
"Again he sent other servants saying, 'Tell those invited,
look, I have prepared my luncheon;
my oxen and fattened calves have been butchered,
and everything is ready; come to the banquet.'
"But not caring they went off,
one to his field, another to his business;
and the rest seizing his servants insulted and killed them.
"The king became angry, and sending his armies
he destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Then he says to his servants, 'The banquet is ready,
but those invited were not worthy;
therefore go to the street corners,
and call as many as you find to the banquet.'
"And those servants going out into the streets
gathered everyone they found, both bad and good;
and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
"But coming in to see the guests
the king saw there a person not wearing wedding clothes;
and he says to him, 'Friend,
how did you get in here without having wedding clothes?'
"And he was silent.
Then the king said to the attendants,
'Tying his feet and hands
throw him out into the outer darkness;
there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.'
For many are called, but few are selected."
Matthew 22:1-14
He said, "Lord, there are many around the well,
but there are none in the well."
Thomas 74
Jesus said, "Many are standing at the door,
but the single ones are those
who will enter the bride-chamber."
Thomas 75
Jesus said, "I will choose you,
one out of a thousand, and two out of ten thousand,
and they will stand as a single one."
Thomas 23
