Luke 13:1-17

And some were present at that time
reporting to him about the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

And answering he said to them, "Do you think that
these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans,
because they have suffered this?
No, I tell you, but unless you change your minds,
you will all die similarly.

"Or those eighteen on whom
fell the tower in Siloam and killed them,
do you think they were debtors
beyond all the people living in Jerusalem?
No, I tell you, but unless you change your minds,
you will die all the same."

And he told this parable.
"Someone had a fig tree planted in his vineyard,
and he went looking for fruit on it and did not find any.
And he said to the gardener, 'Look, for three years
I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree,
and I do not find any;
cut it down; why should it even waste the land?'

"But answering he says to him,
"Lord, leave it again this year,
until I dig around it and throw on dung;
it might produce fruit in the future;
but if not, cut it down.'"

And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
And look, there was a woman
having an ailing spirit eighteen years,
and she was bent over and unable to straighten up at all.

And seeing her Jesus called her forward and said to her,
"Woman, you have been released from your ailment,"
and he put his hands on her;
and at once she straightened up, and she praised God.

But answering, the synagogue ruler,
angry that Jesus healed on the Sabbath, said to the crowd,
"There are six days on which work is to be done;
therefore come be healed on them
and not on the day of the Sabbath."

But the Lord answered him and said, "Hypocrites!
Does not each of you on the Sabbath
untie his ox or donkey from the manger
and leading it away give it something to drink?

"And this woman being a daughter of Abraham,
whom Satan bound, look, for ten and eight years,
should not she be released from this bond
on the day of the Sabbath?"

And when he said this,
all the ones opposing him were humiliated,
and all the crowd was glad
at all the glorious things done by him.
