And again he began to teach beside the sea;
and the crowd gathering by him was so large
that embarking he sat in a boat on the sea,
and all the people were on the land along the sea.

And he taught them many things in parables,
and said to them in his teaching, "Listen.
Look, the sower went out to sow.
And it happened in the sowing that some fell along the way,
and the birds came and ate them up.

"And others fell on rocky ground
where they did not have much earth,
and immediately they sprang up
because they had no depth of earth;
and when the sun rose, they were scorched,
and because they had no root, they dried up.

"And others fell into the thorns,
and the thorns came up and choked them,
and they gave no fruit.

"And others fell into beautiful earth
and gave fruit coming up and growing
and produced into thirty and sixty and a hundred."
And he said, "Whoever has ears to hear let him hear."

And when he was alone,
the ones around him with the twelve
asked him about the parables.

And he told them, "To you has been given
the mystery of the sovereignty of God;
but to those outside all things are in parables,
so that looking they may look and not see,
and listening they may hear and not understand,
lest they should return and it be forgiven them."

And he says to them, "Do you not know this parable,
and how will you know all the parables?
The sower sows the word.
These are the ones along the way, where the word is sown,
and when they hear,
Satan immediately comes and takes the word sown in them.

"And these are like the ones sown on rocky ground:
when they hear the word, they immediately accept it with joy,
yet they have no root in themselves but are temporary;
when oppression or persecution occurs because of the word,
they immediately are offended.

"And others are the ones sown into the thorns:
these are the ones hearing the word,
and worries of the age and the deception of wealth
and the desires for other things coming in
choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

"And those are the ones sown on the beautiful earth,
who hear the word and welcome it
and bear fruit in thirty and sixty and a hundred."

And he said to them, "Does a lamp come
so that it may be put under the basket or under the couch?
Should it not be put on the lampstand?
For nothing is hidden unless it may be manifested;
nor concealed, but that it may come out into the open.
If anyone has ears to hear let him hear."

And he said to them, "Look at what you hear.
With what measure you measure it will be measured to you,
and it will be provided for you.
For whoever has, it will be given to the same;
and whoever has not, even what one has will be taken from one."
Mark 4:1-25

On that day Jesus going out of the house sat beside the sea;
and large crowds gathered about him,
so that embarking in a ship he sat,
and all the people stood on the beach.

And he spoke to them many things in parables,
saying, "Look, the sower went out to sow.
And in his sowing some fell along the way,
and the birds coming ate them up.

"But others fell on rocky ground
where they did not have much earth,
and immediately they sprang up
because of not having depth of earth;
and as the sun rose, they were scorched,
and because of not having roots they dried up.

"And others fell on the thorns,
and the thorns came up and choked them.

"And others fell on the beautiful earth and gave fruit,
one a hundred, the other sixty, the other thirty.
Whoever has ears let him hear."

And the disciples approaching said to him,
"Why do you speak to them in parables?"

And answering he said, "Because to you it has been given
to know the mysteries of the sovereignty of the heavens,
but it has not been given to those.
For whoever has, it will be given to the same
and one will have abundance;
but whoever has not, even what one has will be taken from one.

"For this reason I speak to them in parables,
because looking they do not see
and listening they do not hear nor understand.
And fulfilled in them is the prophetic saying of Isaiah:

In listening you will hear and not understand,
and watching you will look and not see.
For fattened is the heart of this people,
and they hardly heard with their ears,
and they closed their eyes;
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with the heart and turn around,
and I would cure them.

"But blessed are your eyes because they see,
and your ears because they hear.
For amen, I tell you that many prophets and just people
desired to see what you see and did not see it,
and to hear what you hear and did not hear it.
Therefore you shall hear the parable of the sower.

"When anyone hears the word of the sovereignty
and does not understand,
the evil one comes and snatches away
what was sown in one's heart;
this is what is sown along the way.

"And what was sown on the rocky ground,
this is the one hearing the word
and immediately accepting it with joy;
but since one has no root in oneself it is temporary;
and when oppression or persecution occurs because of the word
they immediately are offended.

"And what was sown into the thorns,
this is the one hearing the word,
and the worry of the age and the deception of wealth
choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

"And what was sown on the beautiful earth,
this is the one hearing the word and understanding,
who indeed bears fruit and produces
the one a hundred, the other sixty, the other thirty."
Matthew 13:1-23

As a large crowd was gathering
and people of each town were coming to him,
he said through a parable:
"The sower went out to sow his seed.
And in his sowing some fell along the way
and were trampled under, and the birds of heaven ate them up.

"And others fell down on the rock,
and growing dried up because of not having moisture.

"And others fell in the middle of the thorns,
and growing together the thorns choked them.

"And others fell into the good earth
and growing produced fruit a hundredfold."

Saying these things he called out,
"Whoever has ears to hear let him hear."
And his disciples questioned him what this parable might be.

And he said, "To you it has been given
to know the mysteries of the sovereignty of God,
but to the rest it is in parables,
so that looking they may not see and hearing may not understand.

"This is the parable.
The seed is the word of God.

"The ones along the way are the ones hearing,
then the devil comes and takes the word from their heart,
lest believing they may be saved.

"And the ones on the rock, when they hear,
accept the word with joy;
yet these have no root, who believe for a time
and in time of trial fall away.

"And what falls into the thorns, these are the ones hearing,
and going by worries and wealth and pleasures of life
they are choked and do not mature.

"And what falls in the beautiful earth, these are the ones
who hearing the word in a beautiful and good heart
hold on to it and bear fruit with patience.

"No one having lit a lamp
hides it with furniture or puts it under a couch,
but one puts it on a lampstand,
so that those coming in may see the light.
For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest,
nor concealed that will not be known and come out into the open.

"Therefore watch how you listen;
for whoever has, it will be given to one;
and whoever has not,
even what one seems to have will be taken from one."
Luke 8:4-18

Jesus said, "Look, the sower went out,
filled his hand and threw.
Some fell along the way; the birds came and gathered them.

"Others fell on the rock and sent no root into the earth
and did not produce ears.

"Others fell among the thorns;
they choked the grain, and the worm ate them.

"Others fell on the good earth and brought forth good fruit;
it produced sixty and one hundred twenty."
Thomas 9

Jesus said, "What you hear in your ear, in the other ear,
preach that from your housetops.

"For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket,
nor does one put it in a hidden place,
but one puts it on the lampstand,
so that all who come in and go out may see its light."
Thomas 33

Jesus said, "Know what is before your face,
and what is hidden from you will be revealed to you.
For there is nothing hidden which will not be manifest."
Thomas 5

Jesus said, "Whoever has in his hand,
to him it will be given;
but whoever has not,
even the little one has will be taken from one."
Thomas 41
