THE GOOD MESSAGE OF
JESUS THE CHRIST
Synthesis
39

When Jesus had crossed over in the boat again
to the other side, a large crowd welcomed him;
for they were all waiting for him.

One of the synagogue rulers named Jairus came,
and seeing Jesus he fell at his feet and begged him much
saying, "My little daughter is dying;
come lay your hands on her,
so that she may be saved and live."

Rising Jesus and his disciples followed him.
As he was going,
a large crowd followed and pressed upon him.
A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years
and had suffered many things under many physicians,
having spent all she had,
and not being helped but rather getting worse,
heard about Jesus,
and approaching behind touched the fringe of his robe;
for she said to herself,
"If I may touch even his robe, I shall be saved."

At once the flow of her blood stopped.
Immediately Jesus recognizing in himself
the power going out from him,
turning around in the crowd said, "Who touched my clothes?"

Peter said, "Master, the crowds press upon you and push,
and you say, 'Who touched me?'"
He looked around to see who had done this.

The woman afraid and trembling,
knowing what had happened to her
and seeing that she was not unnoticed,
came and falling before him declared before all the people
the reason why she touched him,
and how she was cured at once.

He said to her, "Have courage, daughter;
your faith has saved you;
go in peace, and be healed from your suffering."

While he was speaking,
someone came from the synagogue ruler's saying,
"Your daughter has died; why still bother the teacher?"

But Jesus overhearing the word spoken
said to the synagogue ruler, "Fear not;
only believe, and she will be saved."

He did not let anyone accompany him
except Peter and James and John, the brother of James.
They came into the home of the synagogue ruler,
and seeing the flute players
and the distress of weeping and wailing,
he said to them, "Why be distressed and weep?
The child did not die, but is sleeping."

They laughed at him, knowing that she had died.
Putting everyone out he went in where the child was,
taking the father of the child and the mother
and the ones with him.

Holding the hand of the child
he said to her, "Talitha koum,"
which is translated, "Little girl, I tell you, arise."

Her spirit returned, and she stood up at once and walked;
for she was twelve years old.
Her parents were greatly amazed.
He gave strict orders that no one should know this,
and he directed that she be given something to eat.

Passing along from there two blind people followed Jesus
shouting and saying, "Have mercy on us, son of David!"

Coming into the house the blind ones approached him,
and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I can do this?"

They said to him, "Yes, Lord."

Then he touched their eyes
saying, "According to your faith may it be for you."

And their eyes were opened.
Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one should know."

But going out they spread the news about him
throughout the land.

As they were going out,
they brought to him a dumb demoniac.
The demon being expelled the one dumb spoke.
The crowds marveled saying,
"Never has such appeared in Israel."

But the Pharisees said,
"By the ruler of the demons he expels the demons."

He went out from there and came into his homeland,
and his disciples followed him.
The Sabbath occurring he began to teach in the synagogue,
and many hearing were astonished
saying, "Where did he get these things,
and what is this wisdom given to him?
Such powerful deeds are occurring through his hands!
Isn't this the son of the carpenter, the son of Mary
and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon?
Aren't his sisters here with us?"
They were offended by him.

But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not unhonored
except in his homeland
and among his relatives and in his home."
He did not do so many powerful deeds there
because of their lack of faith,
except laying on his hands he healed a few sick people.

Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues
and preaching the good message of the sovereignty
and healing every disease and every illness.

Seeing the crowds he was compassionate about them,
because they were troubled
and laying like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is large,
but the workers are few;
therefore ask the Lord of the harvest
so he may send out workers for his harvest."
