Then Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee
to be baptized in the Jordan by John.
He saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
"Look, the lamb of God who lifts away the sin of the world!
This is he of whom I said,
After me comes a man who has become ahead of me,
because he was before me.
I did not know him,
but that he might be revealed to Israel,
for this reason I came baptizing with water."
John said to Jesus, "I need to be baptized by you,
and do you come to me?"
Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now;
for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all correctness."
When Jesus had been baptized,
immediately coming up out of the water he was praying,
and the heavens were opened,
and the spirit of God came down upon him like a dove;
and there was a voice out of the heavens:
"You are my beloved son; with you I am well pleased."
And John witnessed saying, "I have seen the Spirit
coming down like a dove from heaven,
and it remained on him.
I have not known him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water,
that one said to me,
On whomever you see the Spirit
coming down and remaining upon him,
this is the one baptizing with the Holy Spirit.
I have seen, and I have testified
that this is the son of God."
Jesus beginning his ministry was about thirty years old.
