"In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes," wrote Benjamin Franklin, and Jesus faced both with equal calmness. For future reference he told his disciples that he would be given over to people, killed, and rise up again. They did not understand him, but he knew that they would realize what he meant after it occurred; thus his prediction would strengthen their faith that this was all according to plan.
Jesus demonstrated his clairvoyance regarding the tax and also his ability to acquire money in a symbolically significant way.
